When Justine Boxler and François Petit joined forces, they brought together two remarkable winemaking heritages. Justine’s family, the Boxlers, have long been celebrated for their exceptional wines in Alsace, while François’ roots in Champagne trace back to his grandfather and the vineyards in Avize. Together, they embody a unique blend of distinguished terroirs and youthful vision.
La Rogerie is a boutique producer committed to crafting wines that celebrate the infinite variety of nature and the joy of life. The Petit-Boxlers take a refreshingly humble approach to their craft, viewing their role as vignerons as stewards of nature and ambassadors of conviviality. Their philosophy seamlessly marries serious winemaking with a sense of celebration.
La Rogerie’s journey began
in 2015, when Justine and François assumed stewardship of François’ family vineyards in Avize. They immediately focused on sustainable farming practices, eliminating herbicides and pesticides, introducing organic compost, and encouraging biodiversity. Their dedication to the land extends beyond the vineyards, with their farmhouse serving as both a home and an embodiment of their commitment to sustainable living.
Since its official inception in 2018, La Rogerie has flourished as a dual-region domaine, certified organic in both Champagne and Alsace. Justine and François’ decision to honour their roots in both regions rather than choosing one has resulted in a unique marriage of terroirs, creating wines that are as diverse and dynamic as the couple themselves.
Champagne: A Legacy in Avize
La Rogerie’s vineyards in Avize stretch to the borders of Cramant and Oger, resting on chalk-rich soils known for their marine fossil composition. These soils, combined with vines planted between 1937 and 1961, produce wines of remarkable purity and expression.
By employing traditional methods, including plowing by horse and lightweight tractors, and sowing fields with oats, wheat, barley, and mustard during winter to naturally protect the soil, the Petit-Boxlers ensure their vineyards thrive organically. Their commitment to massale selection and respect for terroir result in Champagne that truly reflects its origins.
Alsace: Honoring a Rich Heritage
In Alsace, Justine and François continue the Boxler family’s tradition of crafting some of the world’s most complex and exciting white wines. Justine’s family has gradually entrusted them with vineyards, allowing the couple to farm organically and pick at optimal ripeness, preserving acidity and the unique character of Alsatian varietals.
