“Chiara Boschis’s 2017 Barolos are among the most succesful wines of the vintage. The Barolo Cannubi is absolutely gorgeous in 2017. It is easily one of the most sensual, compelling Barolos of the year. Ripe dark red/purplish fruit, spice, mint and cedar meld into the beautifully textured, resonant finish. I am so impressed with the wine’s freshness. Perhaps the anti-hail netting helped keep some shade on the fruit. What a wine.”

“Deep, dark crimson. Intense and complex aromas of black fruit, smoky bacon and even a bit minty/medicinal. Highly distinctive. Dark, savoury on the palate with that same minty flavour as well as the richness of black fruit and some herbal notes. Delicious in quite an extreme yet pure style. Firm, chewy but ripe tannins. Fresh too, even though it is a big wine.”

“…vinified in whole bunches without sulphur and using natural yeasts, this Gevrey-Chambertin is made from forty-year-old vines cultivated on clay and limestone soils. It delivers contrast on the palate: generous, fresh and mineral simultaneously, it reveals small red and dark berry notes, overlaid with more complex wildflower and musk accents. This wine, which gains in complexity after being cellared for a little while, is ideal for accompanying food.”

2019 Ladoix Blanc by Philippe Pacalet | Burgundy, France

A wonderful Chardonnay from Philippe Pacalet. Nephew of natural wine pioneer, Marcel Lapierre, Pacalet favours an approach of minimal intervention in the vineyard, and the wines are bottled without the use of additional sulphites. Beautifully fresh, notes of grilled pears and flowers give way to a full, linear and mineral mouthfeel.
